Welcome to Association for the Blind
Founded in 1936 in Charleston, SC, the Association for the Blind is the only privately funded, non-profit dedicated to supporting children and adults living with blindness and visual impairment in the state of South Carolina. Our reach embraces the coastal region from Myrtle Beach to Hilton Head Island and surrounding areas.
Our Mission is to serve and support people with visual needs.
Our Goals are to promote optimal vision health through awareness of the importance of the earliest possible screening, diagnostics and intervention of children and the importance of annual screening of adults. Evidence indicates that 80 percent of vision loss is preventable or correctable with early detection and treatment. For individuals with blindness or severe vision loss, our goal is to empower our members to live safe, dignified and self-sufficient lives.
Our work depends on the generosity of the community for financial support. Gifts are tax deductable and enable the Association to assist over 2,500 persons annually with information and education services, outreach eye care services and human development services.
For more information on our services, to donate or to volunteer please call the Director of Programs at 843-723-6915 or email, aftb@aftbsc.org.
